Spices and trade

Hungarian paprika is sold in grades from sweet and delicate to hot. Peppers are harvested in autumn, strung and dried, then ground. Kalocsa paprika is often milder and sweet.

The place and its people

Paprika is the national spice and is used in goulash, paprikash and fisherman's soup. Kalocsa's embroidery and painted flowers are a regional folk art.
