The turmeric, cloves, cardamom, camphor and saffron set out in Hindu household worship.
Also: worship spices, pooja items, pooja samagri, household offerings
In Hindu home worship, a pooja thali commonly holds turmeric and kumkum for marking, rice grains, flowers, a lamp, camphor and incense, and often betel leaf with areca nut, cloves and cardamom as offerings. Spices serve in a symbolic and practical role: they are fragrant, pure and costly. Priests may name particular spices for each deity or ritual, and recipes differ by tradition and region. Whole cloves and cardamom are also placed in the betel leaf and offered at weddings and festivals. Cooks who prepare offerings for the household often keep a separate set of spice jars and utensils for worship.
