Spices for Guru Nanak Gurpurab

Gurpurab begins with a continuous reading of scripture and ends with a procession. Gurdwaras serve vast langar meals, with free dal, vegetable dishes, roti and kheer, to all visitors, and tea brewed with ginger, cardamom and sometimes cloves is poured throughout the day. Karah prashad, wheat, ghee and sugar cooked together, may be perfumed with cardamom and is given to every person at the end of the service. Spice use is gentle so that everyone, whatever their diet, can eat.
