Spices for Yom Kippur break-fast

Yom Kippur is a fast of about 25 hours, so the first meal is built to be gentle: dairy dishes, noodle kugel with cinnamon and raisins, smoked fish and bagels in Ashkenazi homes. In Yemeni and Iraqi homes, the meal begins with rice and soup with cumin, hawaij and turmeric, and in Israeli homes coffee flavoured with cardamom is poured. The break-fast table is about comfort rather than heat.
